Here I am at age 62 having worked since age 11. So now I am retiring in October and I am considering just what my retired life will look like.
When I was 11 the possibilities were unknown, and the likely scenarios had not crossed my mind! Now at age 62 with the economic realities of my income and the limitations of my health condition things I would have thought to be idea now seem out of reach.
I have always wanted to live in Washington DC. Since Cumberland MD is only a few hours away, one might assume that moving to one of the Maryland cities in the DC Metro area would be possible. It is certainly geographically possible, but it is not an economic possibility. It is frustrating because I continue to become aware of events in DC that if I could get there, attend the event, and return home in 4 hours or less to care for my dogs; all systems would be GO! A trip from Cumberland to DC and back consumes the entire 4-hour window I just described. I am not sure what the solution is, but at least I know a goal to pursue and some of the obstacles to be overcome to achieve it. I guess perhaps that is the first step.
